Doctor of Psychology
The Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree advances students
to a distinctly higher experiential and technical level. Holders of this
degree are welcomed in hospitals, mental health and educational agencies.
This degree, followed by success in the state examination, qualifies graduates
for court testimony. Students are thoroughly trained in cognitive and
psychodynamic therapies, advanced psychopathology, psychopharmacology
and projective testing.
Doctors of Psychology are qualified to work in treatment teams consisting
of medical doctors, psychiatrists, clinical social workers or marriage
and family therapists. They also frequently function in private practice
or in association with other psychologists. Because Trinity College of
Graduate Studies and its faculty are firmly committed to the integration
of Christian spirituality with psychological training, still more avenues
of professional development are open to our graduates.
During the pre-doctoral units students may choose to add a few more M.A.
courses and receive a Master of Arts degree in addition to the Psy.D. or elect to
terminate with that degree. To continue forward in the program students
take written and oral candidacy exams. These exams must be passed before
advancement to doctoral candidacy and formal doctoral level studies.
The maximum transferable units toward the Psy.D. is limited to forty (40)
quarter units. A transfer student beginning at the M.A. level is limited
to a maximum of nine (9) transferable quarter units.
